Manpreet Singh to Serve as Joint Flag Bearer

New Delhi, India - Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has been named India's flag bearer for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, England. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) made the announcement, confirming that the badminton ace will lead the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony.

Sindhu's selection comes after she pipped fellow athletes Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain, both medalists at the Tokyo Olympics. The 27-year-old, who won silver and bronze medals in badminton at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, respectively, will become the first badminton player to lead the Indian delegation at the Commonwealth Games.

IOA also announced that Indian men's hockey captain Manpreet Singh will serve as the joint flag bearer alongside Sindhu. The decision to name two flag bearers for the opening ceremony is a first for India at the Commonwealth Games.

The Commonwealth Games 2022 will be held from July 28 to August 8, with over 7,000 athletes from 72 countries participating. The Indian contingent is expected to be one of the largest, with over 300 athletes competing across various sports.
